ARTIST BIO

Aishwariya Chandrasekar is a visual and traditional artist whose drawings and embroidery pieces explore concepts that drive her curiosity. Her work utilizes repetitive lines, dots, and shapes to explore how human behavioral patterns, cultural formations, and social change emerge from the individual(s) – the parts and the whole.

With the support of Maryland State Arts Council Folklife Apprenticeship grants in 2010 and 2022, she has been trained in the traditional Indian art form of Kolam. Her work has been exhibited at the Woman’s National Democratic Club, Strathmore, Sandy Spring Museum, Gandhi Memorial Center, Towson University Asian Arts & Culture Center, the National Folklife Festival, Artomatic, and more.

She holds a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience, a B.S. in Business Management, and an MSc. in Social Anthropology - her interdisciplinary background informs and contributes to her artistic practice.
